Voting for MLB postseason awards is messed up

In my most recent post I noted the absurdity that an MLB player’s career stats do not include post-season stats. Admittedly, it was a little bit rant-y. I had an associated thought that went along with it about voting for post-season awards. On November 20th MLB will announce the Cy Young Winners and the next day on the 21st, the MVPs will be announced for both leagues.

From MLB: Two writers from each MLB city are recommended by the local chapter chairman and approved by the national secretary-treasurer to vote for each award. Writers from NL cities vote for NL awards, and writers from AL cities vote for AL awards, making 30 voters for each award. Awards are voted upon based on the player’s performance during the REGULAR season. It is not supposed to reflect post-season performance.

Roberto Clemente Award

The leadoff vote is the Roberto Clemente Award which occurred prior to game three of the World Series on Tuesday October 28. Royals catcher Salvador
Perez was named the winner.
