This was great John! Thanks for sharing. It strikes me that even in the games earliest stages, the better batting averages correspond with ones later and even current. Underhand pitching had to be easier to hit until it wasn't and players did not initially wear gloves and the differences in rules, dimensions etc. still have good batting averages over .300.
